Your business
My current role in Unilever is to generate scientific insights and develop technologies that maintain, balance and under conditions of dysbiosis, rebalance the human microbiome through topically applied products. In this role, I also engage and forge global collaborations with leading academic scientists, SMEs and suppliers to help in understanding and alleviating conditions such as acne, atopic dermatitis, gingivitis etc. Till date we have launched several products globally under brands that span Unilever’s skin, oral and deodarants businesses.
Something people may not know about you
I am blessed with a wonderful family of my wife and 10 year old daughter. We are all fond of travelling across the globe, seeing places, meeting people and trying their cuisine. I myself is also an avid football lover with passionate supporter of FC Barcelona!

My main business is developing skincare products. We work closely with diverse research areas such as new formulation technology and active material development, and skin biology. By incorporating up-to-date technologies, we try to offer best ODM skincare products for our customers.

Michael Hoptroff
Michael Hoptroff, has over 20 years’ experience working on the microbiology of Beauty and personal Care. His research has spanned the development and formulation of topical antimicrobials to the characterisation and modulation of the microbiomes of skin, scalp and the oral mucosa. Having recently returned from four years secondment in China Michael is currently leading the Unilever UK Personal Care microbiology team.
Céline Blanchard
After finalizing her study of biology, Céline received her M.Sc. in Cosmetic Natural Active Ingredients from ISIPCA in Versailles, France.
She held positions in New Product Development, Scientific Communication and Innovation Management at several raw materials’ suppliers and currently, Céline is part of the R&D department within BIOEUROPE as Cutaneous Biology Research Engineer.
